How to use a Round-about the right way.

One important aspect of using roundabouts properly in the United States is understanding the importance of yielding to the left only. This means that when you are entering the roundabout, you should only yield to traffic coming from your immediate left.

Why is this important? Yielding to the left only helps to keep traffic flowing smoothly and efficiently through the roundabout. If you were to yield to traffic coming from all directions, it could lead to confusion and delays as drivers try to determine who has the right-of-way.

To yield to the left only, follow these steps:

  1. Slow down as you approach the roundabout. Look for signs and road markings to help you determine your lane and which direction you need to go.

  2. Yield to pedestrians and vehicles already in the roundabout. If you are entering the roundabout and there is a vehicle or pedestrian already in it, you must yield to them.

  3. Look to your left for oncoming traffic. If there is a vehicle approaching from your left, wait for it to pass before entering the roundabout.

  4. Enter the roundabout when it is safe to do so. Look for a gap in traffic, and then enter the roundabout at a moderate speed.

By yielding to the left only and following these steps, you can help ensure that you and those around you stay safe while using roundabouts.
